Do you find yourself missing How Not To Summon A Demon Lord already? Needing some more of the same kind of generic, “plug a regular dude into a video game that makes him overpowered” sort of feel? Well, look no further than That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime. It even has a long title so you should feel right at home.
In a short summary, a 37 year old dude died a virgin randomly in the streets of Japan. Instead of being focused on the fact that he will no longer live, he is more so focused on the fact that he never had a girlfriend or sexual intercourse in his 37 years of living. His dying thoughts tie into his new form in a new world; a blue heap of slime with the ability to speak and more.
I went into this first episode fully expecting to hate it and although there’s plenty to roll your eyes at as his dying thoughts are heard,(geez, no wonder you died a virgin), the episode was also pretty funny. His slime form is oddly entertaining to watch as he somehow or another can do things anyone with their right mind would question, much less having the ability to speak.
There seems to be a story underneath the large potential of future fanservice as a dragon tells him the story of his capture, a story full of magic and quite the misunderstanding. If the opening song seen at the end of this episode is any indication, That Time I Was A Demon Lord might just be worth sticking around.
I really hope the fan-service isn’t cheap though. Senran Kagura should have more than enough of that this season.
