Last week on Future Diary: The Musical, a plot twist is revealed that the cast has been conducting the same performance due Nana’s victory quite some time ago. The girls have been in a countless loop of doing the same thing over and over again..until Hikari Kagura arrives. This week, we get to see how exactly Hikari got to the academy and where she was prior to. Later, an audition is held that may lead Hikari to making a difficult decision.
This. THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED!!
After the surprise plot twist, I figured it could only get better from here and indeed it did. Hikari is the star this week as we travel back in time to her childhood with Karen but most of her time is spent at an all girls Theater Academy in London. The competition she faces there seems to be very similar to the Maya and Claudine of the Japanese Academy, which means Hikari is used to having to prove herself worthy of stardom.
However, her light nearly burns out after her first audition. Losing to Judy, a beautiful and talented student in the London academy, makes Hikari feel defeated. This defeat is very uncharacteristic of her nature which leads to another big reveal; the losers of the auditions lose their drive to succeed and potentially more than that. This makes a lot of sense if we look back at Nana saying she desires to do work behind the scenes and implies that battles with characters that previously lost are not only fighting out of pride, but to regain what they have lost.
I saw a battle between Hikari and Nana coming last week but thankfully, this battle has all of the theatrics others have been lacking for quite some time. Nana indeed is a powerful opponent as she sings beautifully and each step is like she’s violently kissing the stage floor. The outcome of this battle was definitely also foreseen, but doesn’t make this awesome battle any less exciting and gorgeous.
Episode 9 of Revue Starlight further sets the show back on track although…sigh…A BATTLE BETWEEN KAREN AND CLAUDINE DESERVED SO MUCH MORE THAN WHAT WE WERE GIVEN!
WHAT THE FUCK?!!!! YOU REALLY EXPECT ME TO BLINDLY BELIEVE THAT KAREN DESERVED TO WIN THAT?!!! HOW?!!! I DO NOT GIVE A FUCK IF YOU ONLY HAVE 4 WEEKS TO WRAP IT UP! HOW DARE YOU!!
